About Mittersill

Mittersill’s central location make it an inspiring base for exploring the Austrian Alps in winter and summer. With snowy mountains like the Grossglockner looking down, Mittersill provides a gateway for a full range of hiking, biking, snowboarding and sledding activities. History is also strong here and the 12th century Mittersill Castle has played host to royal guests like the Shah of Iran and the Dutch queen Juliana.

During the winter, the Panoramabahn cable car provides access from the town to the Kitzbuhel ski area. From here, skiers and snowboarders can also explore the slopes of Resterhöhe, Kirch, and Hahnenkamm. Closer to the town is the world’s longest floodlit toboggan run, and a massive 14-kilometre downhill run in Bramberg am Wildkogel. This centre provides detailed information on the parks 30 summer hiking routes.

Mittersill is close to many of Austria’s alpine destinations and is roughly 130 kilometres from both Innsbruck and Salzburg. Both these cities have international airports. The lakeside town of Zell am See is 25 kilometres to the west while the famous slopes of Mayrhofen are to the west. Local trains run through the region although it’s much quicker to get around with private transport.
