Overlooking the Bay of Kaštela, Kaštel Lukšić is one of seven castle towns west of Split. It was originally established in the late 15th century by the aristocratic Vitturi family, with the castle residence now home to the artefacts and archaeological findings of the Kaštels Municipal Museum.
On the coast of Kaštel Lukšić is Historic Vitturi Park, which was established in the late 18th century by a renowned agriculturalist, Radoš Micheli Vitturi. It is planted with mature Aleppo pines, bay laurels and cypress trees, as well as exotic species such as a beautiful Chinese parasol tree.
A short stroll away is Poštanski Beach, a small expanse of pebbles where you can refresh with a swim on hot summer days. Children will love the nearby Aquapark Kaštel Lukšić with its inflatable obstacle course. Nearby is the Stup pod Ostrogrom, a centuries-old stone pillar that once marked the boundary between Split and Trogir.
Getting there
Kaštel Lukšić is around 25 minutes’ drive from Split and 10 minutes from Split Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Regular buses connect to Kaštel Lukšić and the town is small enough to explore on foot.
