About Al Ḩadd

Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve is an exquisite natural landscape of unblemished coastline, looming mountains and resplendent green habitats located on the eastern shores of the Arabian Peninsula. It is known for its population of nesting endangered green turtles, one of the most prominent in the Indian Ocean.

Travel to the reserve between May and September to witness sea turtles hatching. You’ll have to book a night tour in advance for a chance to view one of the rarest natural sights in the world.

Spend some time touring the museum at the visitor centre to learn more about Oman’s different species of nesting turtles, including the Olive Ridley Turtle, the endangered Green Turtle, the Loggerhead Turtle and the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle. Enjoy browsing the interactive exhibitions and learning about the reserve’s active conservation initiatives.

Getting there

The easiest way to get to Ras Al Jinz is to catch a taxi from Muscat, about a 2.5 hour drive away. The beach is located 900 metres from the visitor’s centre, about a 15-minute walk across the soft sand.
